When I started in this business in 1977... ... I was still in High School, drafting for the firm that designed the Pinellas County Florida, Bay Pines V.A. Hospital. I had no idea then that nine years later I'd be in the field swinging a hammer. In 1982, after 9 years of blue colar and tie work, I burned out and decided to try the field for a change so I joined up with Carpenter Contractors of America and I was impressed with the level of commitment and dedication they expected from their crews and gave in return. For 4 years I worked residential framing until 1991 when I went independent and started Affordable Home Repairs. Then in 2007, due to the housing bubble fall, I moved to Hillsborough, North Carolina and shortly thereafter, applied to and started work with PATRIOT BUILDING COMPANY, an unlimited, commercial general contracting company as a Project Superintendent where I was in charge of numerous multi-million dollar commercial construction projects in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina area. After two years of successful and profitable field supervised projects, I was promoted to Project Estimator, Junior Project Manager with the firm until the firm closed in 2012. I then moved back to Florida and started Mike Spangler - Affordable Home Repairs where I solicited and performed repairs for 6 Property Management companies comprising 32 different Home Owner Associations over 3 Counties. In 2015 to slow down a little, I moved to Danville VA and have since bought, renovated and resold several historic houses no less than 100 years old and requiring full rehab & upfits including new electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, insulation, heat and the list goes on.
